(7.15.10) Great Basin National Park

The view from Wheeler Peak, in Great Basin National Park. Wheeler Peak (13,065) is the tallest mountain entirely with in Nevada, and offers phenomenal views of both Utah and Nevada from the summit.

A note about Great Basin National Park: This week's excursion took us to Great Basin National Park. This is the third least visited National Park in the Park System, which is a shame and delight all at the same time. The Park offers the highlights of the high desert, including mountains, aspen, bristlecone pines, caves, creeks, and so much more. To make it even more appealing, you can hike park's most popular trails and see nary a person. The real gem of the park, in my opinion, is the night sky. Far from the light pollution of city life, one can distinctly see the Milky Way and other spectacular sights.
