(3.15.10) The Herps are Back

As the weather warms, we are seeing more fauna out and about. The bees noisily fly from flower to flower. Mosquitoes and spiders threaten us with bites. The birds cheerily mark the start and end of each day. The herpetofauna have emerged again for our fascinated enjoyment and handling. This week we found 1 juvenile rattlesnake (never fear, Mom, we did not pick it up), 2 horned toad lizards (see above), and countless lizards of unknown species. One fearless lizard, Frank, took up home under my tarp. He spent the better part of an early morning perched on my shoulder as I ate breakfast and packed my gear.
